2006 Player and Pitcher of the Week Honorees

Lebanon, Ill. – For the second consecutive week, Brian Dinkelman of McKendree College has been named the American Midwest Conference Player of the Week. Dinkelman, a senior shortstop from Irvington, Ill., batted .500 on the week with 10 hits in 20 at-bats. Seven of Dinkelman's hits went for extra bases, including three doubles and four home runs. He also added seven runs scored, two stolen bases and five RBI. In the first game of the Bearcats' AMC doubleheader against Harris-Stowe State University on April 30, Dinkelman became the NAIA's all-time leader in runs scored. He pushed his career total to 297, two more than Tom Inman had at Lubbock Christian University (Texas) from 1977-80. This is the third NAIA career record claimed by Dinkelman in an 11-day span. Dinkelman also became McKendree's all-time hits leader on April 28 and ended the week with 363 career hits. That surpassed the 359 hits collected by Justin Knolhoff, who played for the Bearcats from 1998-2001. University has been selected as the American Midwest Conference Pitcher of
the Week for May 1. Basta, a senior left-hander from Ballwin, Mo., needed
just 96 pitches in tossing a 9-0 shutout victory against Williams Baptist
University on April 28. Basta allowed just two hits with one walk and eight
strikeouts, while allowing just one Eagle player to reach third base in the
contest. Basta improved to 7-0 overall with a 2.83 earned-run average on the
year. |
