2006 Player and Pitcher of the Week Honorees

Lebanon, Ill. – Angel Samuel of Missouri Baptist University is the American Midwest Conference Player of the Week for May 8. Samuel, a junior infielder from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, batted .500 during the Spartans' run to the title game of the AMC Tournament. He added three home runs and six RBI along with five runs scored. Samuel's clutch performance in a 9-8 victory against William Woods University helped lift Missouri Baptist into the AMC championship contest. He went 4-for-5 in the game with two home runs and four RBI, including a three-run homer in the eighth inning that tied the score at 8-8. University is the American Midwest Conference Pitcher of
the Week. Basta, a senior left-hander from Ballwin, Mo., tossed a two-hit
shutout in the Spartans' 4-0 victory against Harris-Stowe State University
in the AMC Tournament. Basta walked just two batters and struck out 11 to
push his overall record to 8-0. |
