Men's Basketball - Mike Strobbe, McKendree College
Mike Strobbe from
McKendree College has been selected as the American Midwest Conference
Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 26. Strobbe, a 6-7 senior
forward from Ferguson, Mo., averaged 21 points and eight rebounds in two
games as the Bearcats wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming AMC
Tournament. Strobbe connected on 16-of-27 field goal attempts (59.3
percent) and was perfect on all 10 of his tries from the free throw
line. He posted 24 points and nine rebounds in the Bearcats' 95-83 win
against Missouri Baptist University on Feb. 22, which enabled McKendree
to clinch its 17th 20-win season in the last 18 years. Strobbe enters
the AMC Tournament with 1,810 career points, which is seventh on the
Bearcats' all-time scoring list. It is the third time this season that
Strobbe has earned AMC Player of the Week honors.

Women's Basketball - Amber Lewellen, Columbia College
Amber Lewellen of Columbia
College has earned the American Midwest Conference Women's Basketball
Player of the Week award for Feb. 26. Lewellen, a 5-9 junior forward
from Kirksville, Mo., averaged a whopping 25.5 points in two Cougar
victories to end the 2006-07 regular season. She also posted 4.5
rebounds, 3.5 assists and three steals per outing. Lewellen was 21-of-30
from the field (70 percent), including a 6-of-11 effort (54.5 percent)
from three-point range. Lewellen also made all three of her shots from
the free throw line. She posted 24 points, six rebounds and four steals
in a 93-72 home win over Hannibal-LaGrange on Feb. 22, and followed that
with a 27-point, five-assist performance two days later at William Woods
University. Like Strobbe, Lewellen has received AMC Player of the Week
honors three times in 2006-07.
