Claims AMC Women’s Soccer Post-Season Crown
in 2OT Columbia,
Mo. -
In
a vote by league coaches, Lindsay Kennedy, a forward for the Harris-Stowe
State College, has been named the 2000 American Midwest Conference Most
Valuable Player in women’s soccer. The junior from Alton, Ill. played in
16 matches in the regular-season, leading the Hornets and the AMC with 24
goals and seven assists. Cally
Gavlick, a forward for Missouri Baptist College, is the 2000 AMC Freshman
of the Year. In her first collegiate season, Gavlick scored 16 goals and
added seven assists. Callvick is a native of Collinsville, Ill. Shannon
Roth, a sophomore goalkeeper for the McKendree College, is the 2000
recipient of the AMC Newcomer of the Year award. The Newcomer of the Year
honor is handed out the top transfer-student in the AMC, as voted on by
league coaches. Roth, a native of Granite City, Ill., led her team to a
first place finish in the AMC, notching six shutouts and 69 saves in 1261
minutes in goal. The AMC Coach of the Year is Tim Strange from McKendree College. In the 2000 season, Strange led the Bearcats to a 5-0 record in regular-season league play and a first place finish in the AMC regular-season. The
Hannibal-LaGrange College Trojans are the winners of the first-ever AMC
Fair Play/Sportsmanship Award. The award is bestowed on the team that
displays the best sportsmanship throughout regular-season conference play
and is also voted on by league coaches.
