All-Conference Squad Announced

Columbia, Mo. -  The McKendree College Bearcats clinched the AMC Postseason Tournament Crown today, defeating the Owls from William Woods in double overtime by a score of 3-2. The win gives the Bearcats an automatic berth into the Region V Tournament that is set to begin next week.

In a vote by league coaches, Lindsay Kennedy, a forward for the Harris-Stowe State College, has been named the 2000 American Midwest Conference Most Valuable Player in women’s soccer. The junior from Alton, Ill. played in 16 matches in the regular-season, leading the Hornets and the AMC with 24 goals and seven assists.

Cally Gavlick, a forward for Missouri Baptist College, is the 2000 AMC Freshman of the Year. In her first collegiate season, Gavlick scored 16 goals and added seven assists. Callvick is a native of Collinsville, Ill.

Shannon Roth, a sophomore goalkeeper for the McKendree College, is the 2000 recipient of the AMC Newcomer of the Year award. The Newcomer of the Year honor is handed out the top transfer-student in the AMC, as voted on by league coaches. Roth, a native of Granite City, Ill., led her team to a first place finish in the AMC, notching six shutouts and 69 saves in 1261 minutes in goal.

The AMC Coach of the Year is Tim Strange from McKendree College. In the 2000 season, Strange led the Bearcats to a 5-0 record in regular-season league play and a first place finish in the AMC regular-season.

The Hannibal-LaGrange College Trojans are the winners of the first-ever AMC Fair Play/Sportsmanship Award. The award is bestowed on the team that displays the best sportsmanship throughout regular-season conference play and is also voted on by league coaches.
