Park College Captures AMC
Post-Season Tournament Crown

Columbia, Mo. - The Park College women's soccer squad continued to breeze through post-season play Saturday night, defeating the #3 seed in the AMC tournament, William Woods University, by a final score of 4-0. The Pirates advanced to the championship round after a 9-1 triumph on Thursday over the #5 seed in the tournament, McKendree College. With the win, Park College advances to regional competition, which is set to begin next week.

Jaimie Luce, a senior forward for Park College, has been named the league's Most Valuable Player in a vote by AMC coaches. Luce, a native of St. Augustine, Fl., scored 19 goals and assisted on five more for the Pirates during the regular-season.

Effie Sperry, a midfielder for Missouri Baptist College, is the 1998 AMC Freshman of the Year. In her first collegiate season at Missouri Baptist, Sperry totaled eight goals and two assists for the Spartans. Sperry is a native of Union, Mo.

Also from Missouri Baptist, Aubrey Cardinal, a junior forward for the Spartans, is the 1998 recipient of the AMC Newcomer of the Year award. The Newcomer of the Year honor is handed out the top transfer-student in the AMC, as voted on by league coaches. Cardinal, who is originally from St. Louis, made an immediate impact in her first season at Missouri Baptist, recording 10 goals and four assists in 17 regular-season games.

The AMC Coach of the Year is Dan Palmer from William Woods University. In the 1998 season, Palmer compiled a regular-season record of 12-6-2 and an AMC regular-season record of 3-2. In the AMC tournament, he led the Owls to the championship match as the #3 seed after his team knocked off the #2 seed in the tournament, Missouri Baptist College, in the semi-final round. Palmer is in his third season at William Woods.
