Claims Womens Soccer Post-Season Crown; Columbia, Mo. - William Woods University defeated Hannibal-LaGrange College earlier today by a score of 2-0 in the championship match of the AMC tournament. With the win, William Woods earns an automatic berth into Region V playoffs, which are set to begin next week. In a vote by league coaches, Meghan Fowler, a forward for the William Woods University Owls, has been named the 1999 American Midwest Conference Most Valuable Player in womens soccer. The junior from Independence, Mo. led the Owls to an overall record of 14-4 and a perfect 5-0 in AMC regular-season play, scoring 18 goals and adding four assists. Mindy Boehme, a forward for Hannibal-LaGrange College, is the 1999 AMC Freshman of the Year. In her first collegiate season, Boehme led the AMC in scoring, netting 23 goals and assisting on 12 more. Boehme, who hails from Chesterfield, Mo., led her team to a second place finish in AMC regular-season competition, with an overall record of 14-3-1 and an AMC record of 3-1-1. From Harris-Stowe State College, Lindsay Kennedy, a sophomore forward for the Hornets, is the 1999 recipient of the AMC Newcomer of the Year award. The Newcomer of the Year honor is handed out the top transfer-student in the AMC, as voted on by league coaches. Kennedy, a native of Alton, Ill., led her team to a third place finish in the AMC, scoring 19 goals and adding 11 assists. In her final game of the regular-season, Kennedy set a new single-season record at HSSC, scoring her 19th goal in only 16 games. The AMC Coach of the Year is David Erskine from Hannibal-LaGrange College. In the 1999 season, Erskine led the Trojans to a 14-3-1 regular-season record and a second place finish in AMC regular-season competition. Erskine is in his 2nd season at Hannibal-LaGrange College. A complete list of the 14-member AMC All-Conference team, the Honorable Mention squad and the Academic All-Conference team, are listed below. Members of the Academic All-Conference team have earned at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. |
