Player of the Week –Tara Gaines, Columbia College

Kirksville, Mo. – Tara Gaines, a senior third baseman for the Columbia College Cougars, has been named the American Midwest Conference Player of the Week in women’s softball. Gaines, the Player of the Year in the AMC, recorded a batting average of .533 last week during the Region V tournament, swatting eight hits in 15 trips to the plate. The Hannibal, Mo. native totaled four runs batted in and two doubles in Columbia's four tournament games.

Pitcher of the Week – Jayne Miller, Columbia College

Kirksville, Mo. – Jayne Miller, a freshman hurler for the Columbia College Cougars, has been named the AMC Pitcher of the Week in women's softball. Miller totaled two victories in the Region V tournament, fanning 23 batters in only 21 innings on the mound for the Cougars. Miller, who hails from Palmyra, Mo., allowed only four earned runs in three games, recording a 1.33 earned run average for the tournament.
