Player of the Week - Ana Mercado, Missouri Baptist University Lebanon, Ill. – Ana Mercado, a junior outside hitter from Missouri Baptist University, is the AMC Player of the Week for Sept. 12. Mercado helped the Spartans to a 3-1 record on the week, including a sweep of NAIA #4-ranked Columbia College at the Graceland University Invitational. Mercado, a native of Tepic, Mexico, averaged 5.6 kills on the week, with 17 attacks in the Columbia match and 25 against the NAIA's No. 2-ranked team, National American University. Mercado also posted 32 digs, 12 service aces and six solo blocks on the week. Also nominated: Rose Obunaga of Columbia College; and Ashlee Pyron of McKendree College. For the second consecutive week, Luana Branco of Columbia College has been
selected as the AMC Setter of the Week. Branco, a freshman from Sao Paulo,
Brazil, registered 176 assists in five matches last week, averaging better
than 10 assists per game. She also had 17 kills with an attack percentage
of .356, along with 70 digs. Branco also contributed 13 blocks, with eight
solos, for the Cougars. Libero of the Week - Tracey Abell, Missouri Baptist University Lebanon, Ill. – Tracey Abell, a freshman member of the Missouri Baptist University volleyball squad, has been named the AMC Libero of the Week for Sept. 12. Abell collected 74 digs, 151 pass receptions and 10 service aces in leading the Spartans to a 3-1 record on the week. That includes an upset victory over the NAIA's No. 4-ranked squad, Columbia College.
