IN REGIONAL ACTION...
On Saturday, Nov. 14, Columbia College continued its march toward the NAIA National Championship with a 15-3, 15-1, 15-1 pounding of Lindenwood University. McKendree College was knocked out of post-season play by Culver-Stockton College, 11-15, 6-15, 10-15.


Player of the Week - Deng Yang, Columbia College

[Columbia, MO] - Deng Yang, a freshman outside hitter for the Columbia College Cougars, has been named the American Midwest Conference Player of the Week in women's volleyball for the week of Nov. 9 - Nov. 15, 1998. Yang, who stands 6-1 and hails from Chang Zhou, China, was instrumental in Columbia's 15-3, 15-1, 15-1 drumming of Lindenwood University in Midwest Region post-season play last Saturday. In Yang's 15 attack attempts during the 50-minute match, 11 of them were kills, giving Yang a hitting percentage of 67 percent. In addition, Yang added one solo block and two assist blocks, seven digs and two service aces in the match. The Cougars are undefeated for the season at 36-0 and are ranked #1 in NAIA competition.

Setter of the Week - Yang Zhe, Columbia College

[Columbia, MO] - Yang Zhe, a 5-11 setter for the Columbia College Cougars, has been named the American Midwest Conference Setter of the Week in women's volleyball for the week of Nov. 9-Nov. 15, 1998. Zhe continued to guide her team through the playoffs, posting 36 assists in the three game match vs. Lindenwood University. In addition, the Liao Lang, China native pounded three kills for the Cougars while adding one service ace.
Also nominated: Jennifer Brown, McKendree College.

Specialist of the Week - Dominique Savage, Columbia College

[Columbia, MO] - Dominique Savage, a middle hitter for the Columbia College Cougars is the American Midwest Conference Specialist of the Week in women's volleyball for the week of Nov. 9-Nov. 15, 1998. The junior from Little Rock, Ark. proved almost unstoppable Saturday night against regional foe, Lindenwood University, hammering away 12 kills in only 19 attempts, while committing only three attack errors.
Also nominated: Christy Diekemper, McKendree College.
